Toast Martinborough Wine, Food & Music Festival A key fixture in the New Zealand Wine and Food calendar. The annual event, held on the third Sunday in November, sees the population of Martinborough swell tenfold as wine and food lovers from throughout the country and further afield come to celebrate the new releases. The popularity of Toast Martinborough is reflected in the demand for tickets, with the 10,000 tickets regularly selling out within hours of release. Tickets go on sale to the public in early October and are limited to 4 tickets per purchase. Each of the participating vineyards features culinary delights from Wellington and Wairarapa's finest restaurants that are carefully matched to complement the winemakers selection, along with some of New Zealand's best live entertainment. A special feature of the event is the opportunity for festival-goers to sample some wines from vintages that have sold out but have been held over especially for the festival. The public moves from vineyard to vineyard via free shuttle buses or on foot. Martinborough vineyards are in close proximity to the Town Square. http://www.toastmartinborough.co.nz/ |
Martinborough Fair In 1977 the first fairs were staged in Martinborough with just 35 stalls. In order to attract stallholders the fairs were promoted in the Manawatu and Wellington. Today such is the reputation of the fairs that demand for stalls exceeds the space available, and more than 25000 people flock to Martinborough from Wellington and the Wairarapa, and busloads arrive from New Plymouth, Wanganui, Palmerston North and Hawkes Bay. http://www.martinboroughfair.org.nz/ |
